Harold honored with another Pacific Northwest PGA Award

In addition to the 2009 President’s Plaque for player development Harold received the 2011 Bill Strausbaugh for his work in the community on behalf of the PGA.

The award is given “for distinguished service in mentoring other PGA professionals, integrity and character reflecting positively upon the profession and outstanding involvement in charitable and community activities.”  It is with great pride that he accepted this award resulting from his many years of service as a member of Professional Golf Association of America.

Harold was nominated with a “2011 Teacher of the Year” by the Oregon Chapter of the PGA, an honor he also received in 2007 and 2008.  He continues to devote himself full time as an instructor and coach for players of all abilities.  In 2011 one of his top students won the SW Washington District Championship and the Oregon Junior Championship.  This past season Harold’s high school players accounted for twenty percent of all 3 and 4A boy players advancing to the Bi-District or Washington State Championship and several of his girls placed high in the District and State Championships.  One of his players even qualified for the first stage of the PGA Tour School and will surely advance next year.

But the top players are not his only focus.  A PGA member since 1981 Harold has served as the Head Professional at several area golf courses, Head Coach of the Portland State University Men’s Golf Team and a crusader for player development regardless of player’s ability.  By attending the 2008 and 2011 PGA National Teaching and Coaching Summits Harold demonstrates his passion for teaching by continuing to study the latest in instruction and learning techniques.  He approaches each student as an individual with unique qualities and learning skills.  And for that reason he often says: he has never given the same lesson twice.

You can hear Harold every Saturday morning between 8 and 9 am on ESPN sports radio on 1080 The Fan AM as he shares his knowledge and golf news with legends and celebrities throughout the worldwide golf community.  Tune in, you might catch a tip that can improve your game!

What’s New!

Harold has accepted a position teaching at TRI MOUNTAIN GOLF COURSE beginning May 1. The busy Tri Mountain facility complete with a putting course, short game practice area, including a bunker for sand play and a covered range able to accommodate up to 16 students at a time is a unique training opportunity for Harold and his students. A challenging, well-conditioned championship golf course, Tri Mountain remains usually dry in inclement weather, a rarity for this area and will provide for more year round practice and play. Join Harold as he continues to provide the best in personalized golf instruction in both group and private sessions.

Another note, having received the 2011 Pacific Northwest PGA Section Award Harold automatically qualifies as a nominee for the 2012 National Bill Strausbaugh Award given to the professional who has demonstrated “integrity and character reflecting positively upon the profession and outstanding service to the community on behalf of the PGA of America”. Harold’s efforts as a co-host on ESPN 1080 The Fan’s “Golf in the Northwest”, commitment to the Golf Alliance of Oregon/SW Washington and his dedication to “growing the game” in the community all contributed to his being considered for this honor.
